Full Moon snowfall in the PNW
In part one of this series we touched, ever so briefly, on the sacred geometry embedded in the Solar and Lunar eclipse. True astrology is a reflection of this vast study, and practicing astrology absent a deep understanding of it is, to put it kindly, not to practice astrology at all.
We’ll have more on this in the future. But for now, to the moment at hand:
Late night on March 13th and rolling into the early morning hours of the 14th we in north and south America will experience a full lunar eclipse. It will be a spectacular visual experience, as the nature of this eclipse will have the Moon bathed blood red during the peak of the event.
This particular eclipse in the last minutes of Leo is significant for several reasons. First, it’s a South Node (Ketu) eclipse, occurring at 29 Leo 44 — the anaretic degree, a crisis point of completion. And then, this is the final lunar eclipse before the nodes themselves shift into Aquarius and Leo, making it a culmination of themes related to power, leadership, personal sovereignty, and karmic obligations.
With Ketu involved, this eclipse will not bring forward momentum, but instead, dissolution, severance, and karmic unraveling. It represents a final moment of reckoning before a transition that cannot be undone.
The zone of 29 degrees of any sign to 0 degrees of the next sign is known as the anaretic degree. This is a threshold marking the end of a cycle, a breaking point, or a critical decision that cannot be reversed. It is an incredibly powerful degree, the last chance to finish up unfinished business. The energy here is thick with a get-it-done urgency.
At the Leo/Virgo bridge, this energy portends the fall of leaders, final acts of ego-driven power, and crises in personal and collective identity. That said, an anaretic eclipse will force events to reach their unavoidable conclusion, particularly for those with significant placements in late fixed signs (Leo, Aquarius, Taurus and, Scorpio).
This degree does not allow indecision or delays. It demands a resolution. Even if that resolution is perceived as unwanted, painful or disruptive.
Astrology is of no use unless it’s grounded in the reality of current events. Otherwise, why practice the art at all? As such (and I’ve said this before), if you think the last 2 months have been chaotic, well… we are just getting started. The last 2 months were simply the warm up act. If it is not systematically moving the collective forward, it will be purged.
And the “it” here runs the gamut. Leaders, ideologies, systems, processes… to put this in business lingo, the Universe is trimming the fat. The non-essentials have to go.
The age of the participation medal is done. The only metric going forward into this Pisces heavy season will be measurable merit and contribution. And you’ll see this reflected from the bottom up in society as well as the top down. Bloat will not only not be tolerated in an ideological sense, it simply won’t be possible fiscally. This isn’t a moral judgement of any sort. It’s simply a cosmic reality. It’s the work of a Ketu eclipse in the final degree of a sign to clean house and eradicate the unessential.
Unlike Rahu eclipses, which propel us freewheeling into unknown territory (we’ll discuss this in part III), Ketu eclipses pull us backward into unfinished karma. A Ketu eclipse is meant to shed dead weight. Even though you might not know it’s dead weight at the time of that shedding. The amount of “suffering” endured from the loss of that weight is directly proportional to your attachment to it.
And I think that’s the ultimate lesson of the Ketu eclipse. Especially one at the anaretic degree. Nothing is permanent; loss is inevitable. But suffering is a choice. And what remains is what is truly needed.
So wherever 29 Leo falls in your chart, expect a karmic closing. Something will end, dissolve, or be permanently altered. And in the end, you’ll be all the better for it.
Drilling Deeper
The final minutes of Leo falls in a particular area of the zodiac (called a Lunar Temple) which is ruled by the deities of sacred contracts, alliances, social agreements and wealth distribution. So things like marriages, oaths, financial partnerships, and long-standing commitments, both personal and societal, and things like stock markets can be impacted here. A Ketu eclipse in this Lunar Temple suggests the dissolution of contracts and partnerships that no longer serve their purpose.
This will manifest as:
Global or political alliances breaking down
High-profile removals, firings or resignations of “leaders”
The exposure of past agreements, secrets or secret alliances coming to light
Personal commitments dissolving or in some way restructuring
Wealth being suddenly lost or gained
In essence, what was once bonded must now be evaluated and, if necessary, restructured or released.
Because this eclipse happens in the last degree bridge of Leo heading into Virgo, leaving the sign associated with monarchs, heads of state, entertainment figures, and personal sovereignty, I expect to see:
A shift in leadership: resignations, firings, downfalls, and removals. Across all spectrums - government, big and small business, etc.
Crises related to sovereignty and authority figures (Leo rules kings, CEOs, and celebrities).
Exposure of hidden deals, contracts, and alliances. We’re already seeing an unraveling of the censorship/disinformation industrial complex and that trend will only increase. More egregious revelations will be forthcoming. The Epstein files list, as an example, will be found to have extremely deep tentacles.
A final culmination in power struggles, be they political, economic, and/or personal.
How Will This Eclipse Affect You Personally?
Wherever that final degree bridge between Leo and Virgo falls in your natal chart will indicate where you must let go of an attachment to power, recognition, or identity that is stalling your growth. Many times this is an unconscious attachment and so the removal of that energy (and the accompanying suffering) may seem disproportionate, or out of left field.
For instance, you may encounter situations where current relationships or agreements in your life are dredged up for evaluation or dissolution. The point, from the collective AND personal, karmic perspective is to move both you and the collective forward. Old karmic cycles are ending, requiring a shift in how you express yourself.
This is a fabulous time, by the way, to be proactive in ending relationships that you know no longer serve. That could be a relationship with a substance, a person, a situation or an action that no longer serves your higher purpose.
In fact, proactive astrology (the backbone of Functional Astrology) is the art of harnessing energies that are present for our own will, vs being at the haphazard mercy of them. Becoming, literally, the captain and navigator of your own ship.
And, as always, free will reigns. We can always choose to cling forever to what is no longer present. And the suffering that comes with that is always a choice. Or we can choose to let go of what no longer serves with peace, ease, and flow.
As this is the final eclipse on the Pisces-Virgo axis before the nodes move into Leo-Aquarius, it is a moment of karmic culmination, an ending that prepares the way for something new… but not just yet.
What has been built or allowed to flourish in the shadows under false pretenses will not survive this eclipse. What has been held onto for ego’s sake will be forced to release.
This is not an eclipse of new beginnings. It is an eclipse of unavoidable conclusions.
