Rare Astrological Event: The Return of The Blaze Star and What It Means for You
AstroGnosis || Functional Astrology
It only happens once every 80 years or so. And it's predicted to happen again sometime in the next several weeks.
The Background Background:
T Coronae Borealis (T CRb), also known as the “Blaze Star”, is a recurrent nova in the constellation of Corona Borealis, which is situated above and between the constellations Libra and Scorpio. There’s a ton of science behind what a “recurrent nova” is, but for our astrological purposes here it’s enough to know that this binary star system, which is usually very faint, will soon “erupt” such that, for a short period of time, it will be clearly visible to the naked eye.
This is a big deal in both the astrological AND astronomical worlds. In the kind of astrology I practice the two are inseparable.
Imagine being an astrologer-priest in the cradle of astrology, ancient Babylon. A culture whose very existence hinged on mapping the night skies. And a culture for whom astrology and astronomy were, in fact, the same study. Then one night - seemingly out of nowhere - a “new” star explodes onto the scene and then over a short period time vanishes again! That must have been for them a potent omen for change.
But what kind of change, exactly? Well, astrology is in part the art of culturally-relevant correlation. So let’s examine the last 3 Blaze Star sightings as they relate to the US.
T CRb has erupted 3 times in US history: 1787, 1866 and 1946. The commonality here is social reorganization following an extreme event. Specifically:
1787: The drafting of the US Constitution, post-Revolutionary War.
1866: The end of the Civil War and the Reconstruction Era.
1946: The aftermath of World War II, including the start of the Cold War and global restructuring.
Each of these eruptions heralded a rebuilding phase after extreme upheaval—whether it was war or widespread social conflict.
Let’s look into the implications related to T CRb’s location in the zodiac, and what we might determine from that.
T CRb is positioned at:
Right ascension:16h00m32s
Declination: +29°51'104"
Which puts us in the Sidereal (true) zodiac at approximately 2 Degrees Scorpio. In my system, this falls in the Lunar Temple most associated with the Greco-Roman God Dinus and the Hindu nakshatra of Vishakha.
Some keywords for this portion of the zodiac include Determination, focus, achievement, purpose, zeal rivalry and transformation.
For astrology to be meaningful, purposeful and practical though, we have to weave together the astrological “weather” with the conditions already present in the collective. As I live and write from the US, I interpret through the collective consciousness prism present in the US.
And let’s just say that right now, that collective unconscious here is in a state of massive upheaval. And it’s just going to get more intense.
The US Pluto Return (and then some)
The US is currently experiencing its first Pluto return with Pluto stationing direct on October 11th. Anytime a planet stations, it’s impact is felt exponentially. This is a MAJOR alignment, signaling a deep transformation, death, and rebirth on a national level. Historically, Pluto returns (in nations that have experienced them) indicate a reckoning with power structures and unresolved karmic issues—especially related to control, hidden corruption, and systemic reform.
Add to this a myriad of additional alignments in the US chart - Neptune opposition, Uranus conjunct Algol, Chiron return, just to name a few - and it’s easy to see why my predictions for the next several months carry a duck-and-cover theme.
And one more MAJOR alignment: that Uranus conjunct Algol is in direct opposition to T CRb’s position at 2 Scorpio. I can’t over emphasize how significant an alignment this is.
Note: we go really deep on all manner of astrology (including the predictions that are overviewed here) in our Functional Astrology community, here.
Our brand of Functional Astrology - AstroGnosis - is an actual stargazing process. That is, how these events actually appear in the sky inform meaning. An eclipse is not just an eclipse for example - that’s a very mainstream, 2 dimensional interpretation indicative of uninformed astrology.
That said, we *anticipate* (from prior erruption reports) that the Blaze Star eruption will have a yellow-white hue suggestive of a moment of divine illumination and spiritual purification. Mythologically, it might be interpreted as a time when hidden truths are revealed, or a crisis of transformation occurs, where knowledge and purification are both necessary for growth. Additionally I anticipate the illumination of something hidden, bringing clarity after a period of darkness or confusion.
Going a step deeper, let’s look at Scorpio’s penchant for death, rebirth, and deep emotional transformation. This area of the zodiac deals with facing deep fears, engaging in shadow work, and the regeneration process.
The Home of Temple of Dinus and Vishakha
I go into these themes much deeper in my community, but the combination of Dinus and Vishakha cary the themes of destruction and reconstruction—the need to destroy old forms to pave the way for new creations. His presence here emphasizes transformation through hard trials and the forging of new structures after destruction.
Vishakha specifically is associated with growth through intense challenges, requiring willpower and spiritual development to emerge on the other side. It’s a nakshatra that embodies the fork in the road, where choices are made, and perseverance is key. The presence of both Indra (god of storms) and Agni (god of fire) further emphasizes the stormy challenges ahead but also the fire of transformation that can lead to profound growth.
Rubber Meets the Road: What Can We Infer About the Upcoming Blaze Star Eruption?
Collective and Societal Upheaval:
Like previous eruptions, this Blaze Star event will likely coincide with significant societal transformations. The opposition to Uranus conjunct Algol at 2 degrees Taurus adds the potential for sudden, unexpected changes. Uranus represents revolution, upheaval, and innovation, while Algol (often linked to themes of destruction and chaos) intensifies this energy, indicating a moment where entrenched systems may be shaken to their core. With the US navigating - in addition to a host of other big alignments - a Pluto return and social tensions already peaking, this opposition signals a crisis of stability versus transformation, where old foundations are uprooted, triggering sudden and necessary changes on a collective scale.Reckoning with Power and Corruption:
The Scorpio influence, along with the Uranus/Algol conjunction in Taurus, suggests an unavoidable confrontation with hidden forces, corruption, and power dynamics. Scorpio is about exposing the unseen, while Uranus (in opposition) pushes for sudden, radical shifts. Algol’s involvement brings intensified shadow work, potentially tied to collective fears, destructive tendencies, and moral reckoning. We might see the exposure of corruption or the fall of powerful institutions that have held sway over financial systems, political structures, or global power dynamics, prompting deep reflection and radical transformation.Transformation Through Trials:
The Blaze Star’s alignment with Vishakha and Dinus already points to transformation through intense trials, and this is amplified by Uranus/Algol. The energy of Uranus promotes breaking free from old, restrictive systems, while Algol’s destructive reputation indicates painful but necessary sacrifices. The opposition between these forces could bring about extreme trials—both globally and individually—that force rebirth. Like a cosmic forge, these events will likely dismantle failing structures (whether governments, economies, or personal foundations) so that new, more resilient systems can be created. The focus here is on radical change born from chaos, but with the potential for growth and resilience emerging from the ashes.Sudden Shocks to Stability (Uranus/Algol Influence):
With Uranus conjunct Algol in Taurus (the sign of stability, material resources, and values), the Blaze Star’s eruption in opposition will likely disrupt perceived security—particularly in areas linked to finances, land, and collective resources. Uranus's rebellious energy suggests unpredictable shocks to the economy, agricultural systems, and global trade, while Algol brings the potential for sudden disasters or crises that force a re-evaluation of values. The Scorpio-Taurus axis often involves death, rebirth, and survival themes, indicating that the coming period will require societies to adapt swiftly in the face of upheaval, shedding old structures to make way for innovative solutions and reformed values..
Ultimately, the Blaze Star suggests that intensity, perseverance, and transformation are on the horizon—on both a collective and individual level.
Buckle up; it’s going to be an interesting ride.
